(Poem) Litany of Mary

DAUGHTER OF GOD

Her food: Will of God

Proves her love for her Father

Oh favoured daughter!

MOTHER OF GOD

God’s first place on earth

The sanctuary, there is

Not gold, wood but womb

SPOUSE OF GOD

It blows to his spouse

The Spirit overshadowed

Dwelling place of grace.

MOTHER MOST AMIABLE

The smile that she has

Puts light in her friends’ faces

Her treasures are her dear friends.

MOST ADMIRABLE

Most admirable

Your heart that radiates joy and peace

True model for all

MOTHER OF GOOD COUNSEL

Prudence is needed

Oh, Mother of good counsel

Teach us the right way

MOTHER OF OUR CREATOR

Mother peculiar

Not only mother of man

But Mother of God

MOTHER OF OUR SAVIOUR

She nursed and cared for

The one born in a manger

The babe turned Saviour

VIRGIN MOST PRUDENT

Thinking, pondering

In her heart where things are found

Bearing Will of God

VIRGIN MOST VENERABLE

The unique creature

Deserves nothing less than that

Called hyperdulia

VIRGIN MOST RENOWNED

The only creature

Renowned for intercession

Virgin, exalted

VIRGIN MOST POWERFUL

Sword is not her arm

Her ways gentle and tender

How unique is she!

VIRGIN MOST MERCIFUL

Mary have mercy

In the valley of tears help us

Be mindful of us

VIRGIN MOST FAITHFUL

Most faithful Virgin

Your promises always true

They’re never broken.

MIRROR OF JUSTICE

The mirror that speaks

Of the holiness of God

Reflects true justice

SEAT OF WISDOM

Your simple wisdom

Greater than of Solomon

Make us wise as well

CAUSE OF OUR JOY

Tears, grief and sorrows

The lot of man is hardship

Yet, there’s joy in her.

COMFORT OF THE AFFLICTED

There is no other

Comfort and consolation

Only Mother’s love

MYSTICAL ROSE

And she no other

Of beauty and holiness

In her blossoming

TOWER OF DAVID

The strongest tower

Jerusalem not only

But in the whole Church

TOWER OF IVORY

Oh rich ivory

Of beauty unparalleled

That brings peace and feasts

HOUSE OF GOLD

Womb that housed the Word

Gold richer than Solomon’s

She, temple of God

ARK OF THE COVENANT

In the days of old

The covenant was hidden

Hail to the new ark

GATE OF HEAVEN

As death snatches life

Man stands before mercy found

The mother waiting

MORNING STAR

The light breaks anew

Morning star shines in the sky

Darkness is spelled out.

HEALTH OF THE SICK

The sick and infirm

She runs to give them much aid

Health restored she gives

REFUGE OF SINNERS

In valley of tears

Sinners abound but recourse

to Mary, sure refuge

SPIRITUAL VESSEL

The one she contains

Reason of her holiness

That’s contained in her.

VESSEL OF HONOR

The honor in her

As she offers Christ to us

Vessel called Mary

SINGULAR VESSEL OF DEVOTION

Singular vessel

Of love, care and devotion

Teach us Our Mother

HELP OF CHRISTIANS

In good or bad times

Mother Mary always helps

She is always there.

QUEEN OF ANGELS

Lower than angels

But greater than she no one

The Queen exalted

QUEEN OF PATRIARCHS

They were before her

Yet she’s the Queen of them all

The new Eve of men

QUEEN OF PROPHETS

Announcement they had

Conversion and repentance

and she is their Queen

QUEEN OF APOSTLES

At the Cenacle

They all gathered around her

As she consoled them.

QUEEN OF MARTYRS

Oh, blood of martyrs

The seed of Christianity

She sustained them all.

QUEEN OF CONFESSORS

Their blood testify

Strengthened in times of trials

The confessors’ Queen

QUEEN OF VIRGINS

She, spotless, unstained

Yet the Virgin embraces

Her sons made of clay

QUEEN OF ALL SAINTS

They shed tears and failed

Together with their Mother

They fought and then won.

QUEEN CONCEIVED WITHOUT ORIGINAL SIN

A singular gift

Immaculate Conception

Scotus said it so.

QUEEN ASSUMED INTO HEAVEN

Peaceful as always

Queen assumed into Heaven

Together with Son

QUEEN OF THE HOLY ROSARY

Beads as their roses

They convoked her with trust in

Lepanto battle

QUEEN OF FAMILIES

Basic cell then, now

Of Church and of mankind

Oh Queen, protect them

QUEEN OF PEACE

Man is in battle.

In midst of wounds and defeats

Oh, grant us thy peace
